A Look Back on 2020: Part Two

Weddings

Part Two is here! Late summer and fall seasons did not look the same, although we managed to stay pretty busy. We had senior portraits, engagement sessions and plenty of weddings, both small and medium-sized. We managed to contract Covid (even though we were SO careful!!) but were able to quarantine and not infect anyone. Here is our recap on the second half of 2020!

Jamie – Class of 2021

Late in the summer, I was able to see some family members. One of them was my cousin Jamie who is graduating high school during this crazy year. I have watched her grow up and I am so thankful to call her my family! We took some socially distant portraits in the mountains of Western Maryland during a gorgeous sunset. Best part? I made her dad (my uncle) cry!

Paul + Kayna

A few weeks later, fall wedding season was starting to ramp up. September 12 was originally supposed to be a big all-day affair at Dover Hall Estate, but that got postponed until 2021. Instead, I got to meet Paul and Kayna, a sweet couple who decided to elope at 12 Ridges Vineyard. It was absolutely pouring, but they were radiant as they said “I Do” and enjoyed a delicious meal with close friends and family. Other Vendors: Florals – Foxtail Cottage Floral, Catering – Harvest Moon Catering, Dessert – Cakes by Rachel.

Paula + Sam

I am not sure where to even begin this one. These two hired us a while back, and throughout their planning process, we became friends, which is always so fun! Paula had such a wonderful vision for her day, and she didn’t let covid change it. They were also one of the most thoughtful coupes we have worked with – they made sure everyone was being safe and staying masked. There are many more favorites from this day – full blog post coming soon!

Vendors: Planning – Down the Aisle Events, Venue – Shenandoah Woods, Florals – Carpers Weddings, Dessert – Bijou’s Sweet Treats, Catering – Hanks Grille and Catering, Attire – Enaura Bridal, Hair and Makeup – Rose Quartz Salon.

Lindsay + David

I have known Lindsay for almost three years now. She was actually my pre-op nurse when I first broke my ankle! She and David got married in an intimate ceremony earlier this year, and found out that they were expecting. Isn’t she absolutely glowing? This maternity session from Big Meadows Park is absolutely one of my favs.

Kirsten + Zach

We met these two at a Bridal Show at Cross Keys Vineyards a couple years back. They booked us for their fall 2020 wedding, and even with all the craziness that 2020 brought, they were still able to celebrate with friends and family at their grandfather’s home just outside Franklin, West Virginia.

Vendors from the day: Florals – Sparrow’s Floral Design, Catering – Puttin’ on the Ritz Catering, Bridal Attire – Isabella Grace Bride at Reflections Prom, Groom’s Attire – Jim’s Formal Wear.

Anna + Brian

We shared tons on a full blog post earlier this year, but we can’t help sharing again! This was one of the best weather days we have experienced at Raven’s Roost, and there were almost no other people! It was incredible. We loved getting to know these two and wish them all the best with their fall 2021 wedding in Iowa!

Ali + Mike

These two reached out to us a while back with a gorgeous vision for transforming Ali’s mother’s property into a gorgeous fall wedding spot. We met up with them over the summer to take some engagement photos and see the property – and we were sold! Corona made their guest list shrink considerably, but again, they were able to still celebrate their love and officially get married! We love all the thoughtful touches the two had throughout the day and were grateful for their consideration for safety. I had a hard time picking favorites from this one!

Vendor team: Planning – Wedding Muse, Catering – Roadside Chive, Videography – Feeling Wedding Films, Florals – Flourish Root Florals, Dessert – Gateau Bakery Cafe & Tea Room, Ice Cream Truck – Smiley’s Ice Cream.

Veronica + Kevin

Sigh. One of our favorite couples ever, and we didn’t even get to be there…The morning before their wedding, both Anthony and I woke up with mild flu-like symptoms. We of course asked around to see if we could get a test just to make sure we were negative, but as the day went on, we both felt more sick. By the evening, we found out that we had been exposed to someone with Covid a few days prior. We immediately called around to secure backup photographers for Veronica and Kevin’s wedding, and then I had to make the heart wrenching call to Veronica herself. Thankfully she was SO gracious and kind about it (because she is the best!). Thank goodness we stayed home, because we both test positive for Covid that very next day. It was a long couple weeks but we made it through – and we are SO looking forward to their anniversary portraits next fall!

Meghann + Bryce

After getting cleared from quarantine (and waiting a few days more just to be safe), we met up with Meghann and Bryce at Raven’s Roost for some fall portraits! They moved here for Meghann’s grad school program (the same one Anthony is in!) and this was their first fall in Virginia. Better yet – it was practically their first fall! The pair are from California, so we got to show them the beauty of the Virginia mountains at sunset in the fall. These are some of our favorite pictures ever!

Jessica + Chad

We had about a month break between Meghann and Bryce’s session and Jessica and Chad’s wedding. We took that time to rest, clean our gear, and isolate some more. Then it was party time! This was a last-minute addition to our 2020 calendar and it ended up being one of my favorite weddings of the year. They were able to have some of their closest work friends and all their blended family there – which made it very special! We loved this wedding between high school sweethearts and it was a great way to close out our 2020 season. Vendors: Venue + Catering – Devils Backbone Brewing Company, Florals – Willow Branch Flowers, DJ – Epic Sounds Entertainment, Dessert – Cakes by Rachel, Bridal Attire – Tiffany’s Bridal.

Megan + Dan

Surprise! It wouldn’t be 2020 without some socially distant home sessions to end with. Megan and Dan have been in front of our lens 4 times – and they still haven’t even had their big celebration yet! Enjoy some cute puppy pics that they used for their Christmas card 😉
